About Cassie

Cassie Wanamaker

Where you’re from / where you’ve lived
I grew up in McMinnville, TN. I have lived in Chattanooga, TN since 2020.

How you got into improv
I was interested in improv classes for several years before I tried one. I tried stand up first, and it didn’t really give me the joy I was seeking. I finally tried an improv class and fell in love with the feeling I got on stage. It was electric! I’ve been addicted ever since.

What you love about improv
I love the childlike wonder of improv. I love that it’s a safe space to express and process emotions. I love the bonds that form by performing with teammates. Improv has helped me grow in many areas. I am able to communicate more effectively in my personal and professional life due to improv. Improv has shaped how I give and receive support to and from others. My personal relationships and friendships have improved tremendously since doing improv.

What inspires you
I draw inspiration from my friends, work life, and travels. I like to bring real life experiences to the stage, as it helps me work through things emotionally. I attend Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival every year. I am greatly inspired by the spirit and intentionality of that community. I grew up being inspired by Amanda Bynes and her roles on the Amanda Show. I am also highly inspired by Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson and their writing of Broad City.

Non-improv related tidbit
I do circus arts! I juggle and spin hula hoop, baton, and poi. I also do pole fitness and acro yoga. This year, I am also learning aerial skills!
